Custom Greeting Cards: The Heartfelt Journey Behind Greeting Card Nation

I became a believer many, many years ago in the power of custom greeting cards to help touch people’s lives in a positive way.

My introduction to sending custom greeting cards came many decades ago.

My mother, Gertrude Spaeder (or affectionately known as G3 — Great Grandma Gert), showed me the finer points of greeting card sending and Thank You note writing.

G3 wouldn’t allow me to spend any of my birthday card money that I received in the mail until I sat down to write a Thank You card.

No excuses.

No Thank You card. No money.

So, I sat down to write even when I didn’t feel like it.

Custom Greeting Cards G3 Style

As an adult, I witnessed G3’s dedication to making sure she never missed sending a custom birthday card.

And believe me it wasn’t easy.

She came from a large family, and she had seven children of her own.

G3 even sent me Saint Patrick’s Day cards.

I received those Saint Patrick’s Day Cards every year right up until she passed away.

And of course she would always place a nice, crisp $5 bill in the custom card with a warning.

She would always jokingly write, “No Green Beer! Love, Mom.”

Her love of sending personalized greeting cards had a distinct impact on me.

That’s why I dedicated this website to G3!

A Greeting Card Service Business Is Born

Decades later, I started a greeting card service business called Cards For Your Clients.

I help businesses keep in touch with customers and clients through mostly personalized Birthday and Thank You cards.

Years ago, in trying to market my card business, I attended a business networking event being held in my local area called Speed Networking.

I decided to register to promote my greeting card service business.

Speed networking is a quick and fast way to put your business in front of a few dozen new prospects in just a couple of hours.

One side of the room is seated at a table without moving for the entire time. The people sitting opposite them are “the movers.”

You start the night when the whistle blows and both people sitting at the table have a couple minutes to introduce their businesses to one another.

When the whistle blows, “the movers” move to the next table and the process starts all over again.

At the conclusion of that speed networking evening, I ended up opposite from a nice woman that owned a local spa.

I explained my greeting card service business to her.

Greeting Cards That Touch The Heart

 I showed her a collection of custom greeting cards I had designed.

Included among those was a special card I designed as a tribute to my godfather and uncle that had recently passed away.

In addition to several photos, the special tribute card also included A Sailor’s Prayer because he spent his working life sailing the Great Lakes on ships like the Stewart J. Cort.

The heartfelt card also featured the eulogy my brother gave at his funeral.

The woman that later became a friend picked up the card, looked at the photos and began to read the special eulogy my brother had given at the funeral.

In the meantime, as she was reading, the whistle sounded, and the speed networking event was over.

Despite the event being over, the woman never moved from the table as she continued to read the special eulogy for my godfather.

She sat there for a short time and finished reading the eulogy.

She looked at me with tears in her eyes and told me the tribute card was one of the nicest cards she had ever seen.

She felt she knew my godfather, simply reading the eulogy and looking at the photos, even though she never met him during his lifetime.

That memory of her and that special card’s effect on her has never left me.

If a personalized greeting card can make such an impact on someone that they didn’t even know…imagine the effect when sending a special card to someone you do know.

With the many problems facing our world, the words of the great Maya Angelou are more important today than ever before. 

Maya Angelo said: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

That is my mission at Greeting Card Nation.
